Life-Saving Circulatory Support

Hemolysis, air embolism, and blood clot formation are frequently observed side effects in clinical interventions that require extracorporeal blood circulation. The typical mode of actions of traditional pumps are major contributors to these complications, leading to damaged blood cells and the risk of air entering the bloodstream. These issues not only threaten patient safety and well-being but potentially also extend post-intervention recovery times as a result of increased inflammation in the body.

With the patient in mind, we are developing our innovative technology. A gentle pump for blood, designed to minimize blood damage and air embolism*. Leveraging our patented technology, the pump ensures gentle handling of blood, which significantly reduced the risk of hemolysis and blood clot formation. This will ultimately result in increased quality of life-saving circulatory support systems.

ECMO and CPB

The gravity pump technology can potentially be incorporated in for instance Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenization (ECMO) and Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) systems, offering a solution to the common problem of hemolysis in these clinical interventions. By applying minimal mechanical forces, the pump ensures that blood cells are handled gently, significantly lowering hemolysis levels. This gentle approach also reduces damage to blood platelets, which in turn minimizes the risk of blood clot formation. The result is enhanced patient safety and more efficient recovery times.

Dialysis

The innovative technology of the gravity based pump significantly reduces the risk of blood cell damage. Its unique design leverages natural gravity flow, which inherently functions as a bubble-trap. This feature lowers the risk of unwanted air bubbles entering the bloodstream, a common concern in dialysis treatments. As a result, the pump enables safer dialysis procedures even at higher flow rates.
